56 Brewing

Columbia Avenue smells like hot asphalt and diesel fumes when you pull up to 56 Brewing. You’ll dodge delivery vans parked out front before squeezing past the garage doors into a concrete taproom that stays loud even on a Tuesday. It’s an industrial block in Northeast, and the room feels like it was built for forklifts instead of pedal boards.

The stage setup is rough around the edges, shoved into a corner right next to the fermenters. Sound bounces off every hard surface you can see, so your ears will ring for a day or two after. Bartenders pour pints fast while locals crowd the picnic tables, shouting over whatever garage rock outfit is plugged into the PA.

Don't expect fancy cocktails or a coat check. You grab a hazy IPA, lean against a stack of kegs, and watch the drummer sweat through his hoodie. There's no security shaking you down at the entrance, just a guy with a clipboard checking IDs under a flicker of fluorescent light.
